Gallery Two - "Advertising LIFE" "Advertising LIFE is a series of large paintings based on small collages created with advertisements from LIFE magazines printed in the 1950's. The three paintings in each tryptych use common elements from ads which have been deconstructed and reassembled." Why use LIFE magazine clippings and why the 50’s? "I was away from my studio for a lengthy period of time and felt the urge to create. I was at my parents’ home and discovered stacks and stacks of old magazines. I found many ads for automobiles and other manufactured items in an array of bright hues. In the 1950’s they weren’t afraid of using color, so the ads became my palette. I cut them and deconstructed them to reflect what has happened to our way of life, since that era". The tryptychs are designed to hang either vertically or horizontally.
